About Martin Frith
Qualifications
I am a Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage.
My academic background includes Environmental Studies (University of Waterloo), a Master of Divinity (St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto), and graduate studies in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I have a background in healthcare, having worked in acute, long-term, and rehabilitation settings, and over 25 years’ experience providing counselling with individuals, couples, and groups. In addition, I have held various roles, including 15 years as Bereavement Coordinator for a funeral company and 10 years as Client Support Coordinator at Dying With Dignity Canada.
Today, I focus exclusively on private practice and consulting, providing a safe and compassionate space for people to be heard and supported.
Approach
My counselling style is collaborative and flexible, drawing on a range of approaches including family systems, emotion-focused therapy, EMDR, and brief therapy. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model; instead, I tailor each session to what will be most helpful for you.
I’m actively engaged during sessions and often suggest “homework” between meetings—such as a task, reflection, or focused reading. These practices help you integrate new insights and foster lasting changes in your daily life and relationships.
